In the northwest quadrant of the Jefferson Park Neighborhood, the normally east west street, Hampton, turns north to intersect Grant Road. Residents along that stretch have experienced a serious increase in traffic. From Euclid cars turn on Edison to avoid the right turn wait. At the Sausage Deli traffic continues to turn right into the neighborhood in spite of the "No Right Turn" signs. And finally, traffic from Grant turns right into the neighborhood.
In October 2015, residents gathered enough signatures to request the closure of Hampton. The city would not approve a full closure. Emergency and environmental services vehicles needed access. The city would not finance the partial closure and required the neighborhood to submit plans. A retired engineer from neighboring SAMOS subsequently submitted three plans on behalf of the neighborhood.
As of February 2016 the neighborhood awaits the approval of those plans. The estimated cost to construct a partial closure is estimated to be from 6K to 10 K. The neighborhood has begun soliciting donations to the fund to build the closure.
CITY AGREES TO CONSTRUCT AND FUND! On April 11, 2016, then Project Manager Beth Abramovitz agreed to constructing a partial closure as part of the Grant Road Project.
