City Weed Ordinance

SUMMER RAINS BRING—WEEDS!

Monsoon rains sure make weeds grow. In the City of Tucson, you could get cited if you let them grow too tall. Some quick facts:

  • Anything over six inches in height is a code violation. That's the length of a dollar bill.
  • Noncompliance of Tucson city code results in a civil citation. Fines are anywhere from $200 to $2,500.
  • Green weeds house rodents, mosquitoes and other insects, dried out weeds are a fire hazard.
  • Inspections and citations are complaint driven

Tucson code inspectors have responded to 1860 weed complaints in 2007. Here’s a great opportunity for neighborly good deeds. If you have elderly neighbors, maybe you could offer to help pull their weeds. If you are near an abandoned lot, or have a problem near you, you may make a complaint. The City of Tucson phone number to make a complaint is 791-5843.
